Assembling working software without writing most of it is the promise here, and the mechanics are well established. A visual canvas handles screens and layout, a data model designer defines tables and relationships, and an automation editor wires triggers to actions with conditions and branches. Forms collect input, roles control who sees what, and hosting and backups come with the platform. Low-code variants add escape hatches for the point where the visual editor runs out: a scripting step, a hand-written query, a call to an external API, custom components dropped into a page.

Operations groups and internal tools functions use No-Code & Low-Code platforms to replace spreadsheets that have outgrown themselves, to build approval workflows, client portals and admin panels, and to test an idea before funding an engineering build. Compare how much relational complexity the data layer supports, whether it reads an existing database instead of demanding its own copy, what can be exported, and how versioning and staging work.

Build the hardest screen first, because the wall is always in the exception cases. Debugging is opaque, performance degrades on large record counts, and costs that scale with records or end users can overtake a conventional build. Applications also lose their owner when staff change roles. Expect a capped free tier, per-editor and per-end-user charges, run-based metering, or a self-hosted license.
