Browser Agents

Some work exists only inside a browser tab. Browser Agents operate a real session, opening pages, clicking, typing into fields, scrolling, handling dialogs and reading what is rendered, instead of calling an API. Implementations differ: an extension acting in the open window, a remote browser driven in the cloud, or a recorded sequence replayed on a schedule with a model recovering when the page has changed. Form filling, data extraction and multi-page portal processes are the common jobs.

Research, procurement, quality assurance and operations teams reach for AI browser agent software when a system has a web interface and nothing else. What matters is whether the session runs locally or remotely, how sign-in and multi-factor prompts are handled, where cookies and saved passwords sit, whether each run leaves screenshots for review, how the agent behaves when a selector no longer matches, and whether a person confirms before a submission goes out.

Verify behavior on the specific sites in scope, and again after any redesign, since page changes cause most breakage. Bot detection, challenge pages, rate limiting and site terms constrain what is possible and permissible, and a signed-in agent inherits the full authority of that account. Instructions hidden in page content are a real risk when the same agent both reads and acts. Pricing is metered by browser minutes, steps or runs, often with a small free allowance.
